The collection consists of the personal, financial and professional papers of Charles Mercer Snelling, as well as his personal and professional correspondence. The bulk of the collection is comprised of Snelling's administrative papers, representing the full range of his administrative duties with the University of Georgia. Of particular interest is a subseries dealing with academics at the University, an athletics subseries, a subseries on social fraternities, and a military section dealing with Snelling's role as Commandant of Cadets. Snelling's personal papers consist of his correspondence with his nuclear and extended family, a series of papers that examine his role in bringing commercial apple production into the mountains of extreme northeast Georgia, and a chronologically limited series dealing with Snelling's personal investments. The other series of financial papers deals with Snelling's financial oversight roles with the City of Athens, the National Bank of Athens, and Central of Georgia Railway franchise information.
